Digital Communication modes have gained popularity over the years in the market because of superior performance in environments with interference, noise and other contributing factors that degrade the quality of a standard FM Analog signal. Narrower bandwidth and the need for increased spectrum have led to the development of digital communications technology, which has been widely adopted in the Public safety and private business sectors that use two-way radio technology.
Below you will find more information on this marvelous new technology, and how it can meet every operators demand and needs for a clear and simple Digital Experience. Highspeed Data Transfer data such as images or text messages at full rate with speeds up to Bits-per-second. This mode allows digital users to communicate with existing Analog FM users without the need to switch their radios into FM Mode, allowing crystal clear Digital reception into the repeater that is converted into a conventional FM Signal.
The communication mode automatically switches to match the received mode. Even if a digital signal is being used, you can switch to FM communication if radio signals are received from a FM station.
This function enables stress-free operation by removing the need to manually switch the communication method each time. AMS function breaks down into the following operating modes that are fully selectable by the radio user:. Yaesu incorporated a suite of features within the System Fusion product line that are designed specifically for Amateur Radio Use. These features allow the operator to transmit High quality digital voice simultaneously along with Digital Data, and a High Rate Data FR Mode dedicated Digital Data mode that provides a method of transmitting Images, Text message and Telemetry Data at a high rate of speed.Monte carlo option pricing excel
Digital Group Monitor automatically checks whether users within a communication group are in or out of range, and displays information such as distance and orientation on the screen of the client radio for up to 24 Stations. Each individual group can share Text and Picture messages between themselves, allowing intelligent control of how content is distributed amongst a large operating group. Group Monitor is almost an invaluable feature when an operator or group of operators needs to track resources, such as in an emergency communication operation.
Resources can easily be tracked and controlled, letting operators know when they are going to fall out of range and may need to return to the coverage area, or providing invaluable telemetry data for locating and tracking individual operators. This image data also retains a time record and the GPS location data of the snapshot. It is easy to navigate to that pictured location by using back track function.
In addition, you can observe on the screen whether the transmitted data was successfully received by the member station. The snapshot image or received data is stored in a high capacity micro SD card, and you can recall and send that image data from the SD card anytime.
The pictures and data files may be easily viewed and edited by using a personal computer by simply inserting the SD Card into any SD Card reader. The Backtrack Function enables navigation to a registered location at the touch of a button. When hiking or camping, simply register your starting point or campsite before departure, and the distance and orientation from the current location are displayed on the screen.
Migrating to System Fusion could never be easier! Since System Fusion enables the operator to quickly select operating modes using the revolutionary AMS Automatic Mode Select System, backwards-compatibility is fully maintained. Two main factors make System Fusion the ideal choice for existing infrastructure replacement:. I just got it installed this week.
We have a local repeater hooked to the Texas Nexus room and it is pretty active, I tried it out today. I don't think I am going to get hooked on ragchewing on C4FM but it is a new mode for me and I do find it interesting.
Go digital with a System Fusion hotspot
One of the amusing things was a guy in New Jersey talking to a guy in Ireland in the Texus Nexus room. Not much different than a VoIP call in terms of the technology but I got a kick out of it.
What was your first C4FM Contact? I am still very new to all of this. What do you most enjoy doing on C4FM or similar modes? KJ5TMar 5, WW2PT likes this. Same maladjusted levels present in both systems and all the poorly connected hotspot users with packet loss and jitter makes it worse.
Fully lossless simplex range on either sounds very nice though. I spent quite a bit of time just listening while I drove to run some errands, no doubt some signals sound better than others. The audio quality is significantly better to my ears.
Very pleasant to listen to. I've made both local simplex contacts and via Wires-X. I'm fortunate that there are a couple of Fusion repeaters in my area that are connected to Wires-X, although I really don't play on them much. Our local PD uses it and its no better. High marks for spectrum efficiency however. WE4EMar 5, I think the difference in sound mainly comes down to the radios being used at both ends.
The simple fact is that there a lot more junk DMR radios out there than there are for the other modes. Received audio on my Yaesu FT2D it horrendous in any mode. W4EAEMar 9, WW2PTMar 9, KJ5TMar 9, I find it to be a great analog FM radio. While I appreciate some of the digital mode functions that are not available in analog, I find the digital audio to be very poor. It's a disgrace that the digital audio can not be made to sound at least as good as analog audio.
How is it the audio on a cell phone is far better than that on a digital radio?Welcome, and thanks for visiting our website. If you are a licensed amateur radio operator and not yet a member, we hope you will consider joining our club.
Our public service efforts and emergency communications infrastructure are supported by donations from our members and the community. We will be once again meeting via ZOOM this month.
We will be having an original presentation on Earthquake Preparation prepared for the Coachella Valley area relevant for all of Southern California by Dr.Scp 049 j
Dennis Mileti and Ken Ekland. Because of the proprietary nature of the presentation, only SBARC members will be able to view the recorded version of the meeting after the meeting is concluded.Accuform remote
We will make this available to members via a special link we will send out by email. We will be posting details here on the meeting date approximately one half hour before the meeting starts at So please check back then! He has numerous photographs showed work performed at the site. Few of us have had the opportunity to see what goes on at this major repeater site, but Bill knows all!
His vast historical knowledge of our local repeater sites is always interesting and informative! The problem was isolated and the system restored to service. There was sufficient time to finally install a repeater control system in the amateur radio rack. We now have control of If we were to take a boat to the Island and climb the hill then return by boat it would be a three day journey and a logistical nightmare.
Sure nice when you can load out at the airport and your there in 20 minutes. Thanks to those who made it happen. Winds were high all day prompting a late departure. The K6TZ A new RLC Club Repeater controller was recently added to enable a cross connect and control between the two repeater systems. In addition all DC power systems from the site 24 volt solar grid and battery distribution were upgraded with 12 volt Inverters and redundant isolation.
Both systems enjoy wide primary coverage from Point Conception to Malibu along the coastline, and many areas inland.
The two-meter repeater on Per agreement, two-meter repeater operations on Both repeaters are normally cross-connected. This can be reconfigured as needed. The two-meter repeater also supports local P25 digital communications. Information is also available on Repeaterbook for the 2-meter repeater and the repeater. Well, the stay-at-home order is still in effect, so rather than cancel the meeting again, tried something new this month! We conducted our meeting via video chat.ZUMspot Rpi.
The ZUMspot Rpi is fully assembled and tested and comes with a short antenna. He produces them in batches so you might be put on a waiting list. He ships from NY and from the time I paid until it was in my hands was less than 1 business week. Make sure you get exactly one of these part numbers. The older version of each do not have built in Wi-Fi. Raspberry Pi Zero W is the smallest, cheapest, and more power frugal of the two.
The Pi Zero W gets its small size by using smaller and fewer connectors. It also has a wired ethernet jack so if you require a wired connection, this is the Pi for you it will do wireless also. Other things that allow the Pi 3 Model B to command a higher price is more ram and a faster multi-coreprocessor — neither of which is much of an advantage to running a ZUMspot.
On Amazon the price of 2, 4, 8, 16 GB cards are nearly all the same. See if you too already have one you can use or buy what you feel is a good value. Note that Pi-Star normally does not write to the card except during configuration which explains why the speed is not a big issue. This can easily be handled with a cellphone power adapter with a micro USB connector commonly used with android devices.
For me I used a cellphone power adapter that takes a plug in USB cable and bought one of these cables with an in-line switch.
The heart of the system is the Raspberry Pi software Pi-Star. I downloaded the. ZIP version as the burning tool in the next section can use the. ZIP directly. Download the Pi-Star image to your machine.
Now you need to get this image onto your Micro SD card. Using Etcher is self explanatory.RuggedSPOT DMR/DSTAR/C4FM/P25/NXDN Custom Hotspot
Install and run it to burn your image to your micro-sd card. This is especially important if you use a Pi Zero W as later the Pi-Star software configuration is only performed in a web browser and the Zero has no wired ethernet. How do you know what IP address your Pi is? You must be logged in to post a comment. It took about an hour to assemble the tiny case, transceiver, and Raspberry Pi Zero-W board. From that point on, it was simply another node on my home WiFi network. I have the newest wiresX firmware in the radio and the ZumSpot is up and running and updated.
Now what do I do? What is the next step to get connected to someone? Thanks, N7PS. You should see the word WIRES flash on the display, and hopefully will hear a set of four rising tones mine often misses it the first time, and I have to wait about 20 seconds for the radio to timeout before I can do it a second time.
Rotate the channel knob one step CCW.

Ed N1YLN. Thanks, Robert!! Yay, success!! Thanks again for your thoughtful response, it is much appreciated — N7PS. Hi Conrad — glad the comment was useful. Very nice to run into you on the air as well. Be safe on that big AM Tower!
And I should mention that I have been able to talk to some of our club members through our Fusion repeater but it is not yet up with Wires-X. In the mean time, I will check out other Fusion rooms!
Look for other posts in my blog, Russ. I have used Wires on my FTD, but it is sometimes hit-or-miss works sometimes, not others. I think it is tied into the bit error rate BER which seems to vary all over the place with my radio. But how can I connect to my home repeater?
